Wound Care

If your furry best friend gets a wound — such as a bite, scrape, cut, or burn — you’ll want them to be healed as quickly as possible, and comfortable during the healing process.

That’s where we come in! We’re here to help your pet heal and get back to their normal selves as soon as possible.

What to do if your pet has a wound

In case of any severe bleeding or pain, you’ll need to seek veterinary care right away!

For more routine wounds — like minor cuts and scrapes, broken toenails, or hot spots, for example — you’ll still want to seek care as soon as possible.

That helps to ensure your pet won’t make the wound worse — or get an infection — by licking or scratching it.

If it’s not possible to bring your pet in right away, ask us what to do in the meantime, to help keep the wound clean and guarded until your appointment.

How do you treat a wound?

That depends on how big and how deep the wound is, as well as whether or not it’s infected.

In some cases, stitches and bandages may be required (if that’s the case, we’ll give you instructions on how to care for them)… and in others, just an ointment may be all that’s needed. We’ll have to evaluate your pet and their wound to know for sure.

Some wounds may require antibiotics or regular cleanings. And, most wounds will need to be monitored to ensure they’re healing properly, so we’ll help you schedule a recheck visit.

If your dog or cat has a wound, be sure to make an appointment sooner rather than later, so that the wound doesn’t get worse.
